Story 33
The Good Samaritan
Luke 10:25–37
A teacher of the law asked Jesus, "Who is my neighbour?" Jesus answered with a story. A man was travelling from Jerusalem to Jericho when robbers attacked him, took his things and left him hurt beside the road. A priest came along, but he did not stop. A Levite passed by on the other side too.
Then a Samaritan arrived. Samaritans and Jews did not usually get along, yet he felt sorry for the man. He cared for his injuries, put him on his own donkey and took him to an inn to be looked after. He paid the innkeeper and promised to come back. Jesus asked who had been a true neighbour. The answer was the one who showed kindness. Jesus said, "Go and do the same."
Children learn: Children learn to show kindness to everyone, and that the safe way to help someone who is hurt is to fetch a trusted grown-up straight away.
