God Creates the World

Story 1

God Creates the World

Genesis 1:1–31

In the beginning, everything was dark and empty. Then God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light. Day by day, God made the world: the sky above, the dry land and the seas, and plants and trees full of seeds and fruit. He placed the sun, the moon and the stars in the sky to give light and mark the seasons.

Next God filled the waters with fish and the sky with birds, and the land with all kinds of animals. Last of all, God made people in his own image, a man and a woman, and blessed them. He gave them plants for food and asked them to care for the earth. God looked at everything he had made, and it was very good.

Children learn: God made everything, including you, and everything he made is very good.

Questions to talk about together

After reading, ask your child these questions. There is no wrong answer — the point is to talk together.

  1. 1What did God make first?
  2. 2Which of God's animals is your favourite, and why?
  3. 3How can we take care of God's world at home?

The book has questions and a parent guide for every story.
