David and Goliath

The army of Israel and the army of the Philistines faced each other across a valley. Every day a huge Philistine soldier named Goliath shouted, daring Israel to send someone to fight him. King Saul and his soldiers were very afraid. Young David, a shepherd boy, came to bring food to his older brothers and heard Goliath's words.

David said, 'The Lord who kept me safe from the lion and the bear will help me.' King Saul's armour was too heavy, so David took his shepherd's staff, his sling and five smooth stones from the stream. He told Goliath, 'I come in the name of the Lord.' David swung his sling, the stone hit Goliath, and the giant fell to the ground.
