Story 16
Ruth and Naomi
Ruth 1:1–4:17
Naomi was living far from home, in the land of Moab. Sadly, her husband and her two sons died, and she was left with her sons' wives, Ruth and Orpah. When Naomi decided to go back to Bethlehem, she told the young women to return to their own families. Orpah went home, but Ruth said, 'Where you go, I will go. Your people will be my people, and your God my God.'
In Bethlehem it was harvest time. Ruth worked hard gathering leftover grain in the field of a kind man named Boaz, who made sure she had plenty. Later Boaz married Ruth, and they had a baby boy called Obed. Naomi held her grandson, full of joy again.
Children learn: Being loyal and kind to the people we love really matters, and God can bring new joy after sad times.
