Jesus Feeds Many People

Story 31

Jesus Feeds Many People

Matthew 14:13–21; John 6:1–13

A huge crowd followed Jesus to a quiet place. He felt compassion for them, healed those who were ill and taught them until evening. By then everyone was hungry, but there was not nearly enough food. One boy had five small barley loaves and two fish, and that little meal was brought to Jesus.

Jesus asked the people to sit down on the grass. He took the bread and fish, thanked God, and the disciples handed out the food. Everyone ate until they were full! Afterwards the disciples gathered the leftover pieces, and they filled twelve baskets. God did something wonderful with a small gift offered with a thankful heart.

Children learn: Children learn that God cares for our needs and that we can be thankful and share gladly from what we have.

Questions to talk about together

After reading, ask your child these questions. There is no wrong answer — the point is to talk together.

  1. 1What food did the boy have?
  2. 2How do you think the people felt when they were full?
  3. 3What can we thank God for when we eat together at home?

The book has questions and a parent guide for every story.
