Jonah and the Great Fish

Jonah 1–4

God asked Jonah to take a message to the great city of Nineveh, but Jonah did not want to go. He got on a ship sailing the other way. A big storm came, and Jonah told the sailors it was because he was running away from God. He told them to put him into the sea, and God sent a great fish to swallow him. Inside the fish, Jonah prayed, and after three days the fish brought him safely to dry land.

God gave Jonah a second chance. This time Jonah went to Nineveh, and the people were sorry for the wrong things they had done. God showed them mercy. Jonah was cross, but God gently taught him that He cares about everyone.

Children learn: God gives second chances and wants us to show kindness and mercy to others too.
