Story 7
A Promise in the Stars
Genesis 15:1–6; 21:1–7
Abraham and Sarah had no children, and they were growing old. God spoke to Abraham in a vision: 'Do not be afraid. I am your shield.' Then God took him outside and said, 'Look up at the sky and count the stars, if you can. That is how many people there will be in your family.' Abraham believed God, and God counted his trust as right.
The years went by, and Abraham and Sarah became very old. Then, at exactly the time God had promised, Sarah gave birth to a baby boy. Abraham was one hundred years old! They named the baby Isaac, a name that means 'he laughs'. Sarah said happily, 'God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.'
Children learn: God always keeps his promises, even when we have to wait a long time.
