Story 6
God Calls Abraham
Genesis 12:1–9
God spoke to Abraham and said, 'Leave your country, your relatives and your father's household, and go to the land I will show you.' Then God gave him a wonderful promise: 'I will bless you and make you into a great nation, and through you all the families on earth will be blessed.'
Abraham trusted God and set off, even though he did not know exactly where he was going. He was seventy-five years old. He took his wife Sarah, his nephew Lot, the people with them and everything they owned, and travelled to the land of Canaan. There God appeared to him and said, 'I will give this land to your family.' Abraham built an altar to worship God, then kept travelling from place to place, living in tents.
Children learn: Trusting God means following him step by step, even when we don't know everything that lies ahead.
