The Tower of Babel

Long ago, everyone in the world spoke the same language. As people travelled east, they found a wide plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. They learned to make bricks and said, 'Come, let's build a city with a tower that reaches up to the heavens. Then we will make a great name for ourselves and not be scattered over the earth.'

God came down to see the city and the tower they were building. He mixed up their language so they could no longer understand one another, and they stopped building the city. God scattered the people across the whole earth, and the city was called Babel. Today the world is full of wonderful languages, and God loves people who speak every one of them.
