Jacob and Esau
Genesis 25:19–34; 27:1–45
Isaac prayed for his wife Rebekah, who had no children, and God gave them twin boys. Esau was born first, red and hairy all over. Jacob came next, holding on to his brother's heel. Esau grew up to be a skilful hunter who loved the open country, while Jacob was quiet and stayed near the tents. One day Esau came home very hungry, and Jacob gave him a bowl of red lentil stew in exchange for his special rights as the firstborn son.
Years later, when Isaac was old and could not see well, Rebekah planned a trick, and Jacob pretended to be Esau so that he would receive his father's blessing. Esau was deeply upset and angry. So Rebekah sent Jacob far away to stay with her brother Laban.
Children learn: Tricking others hurts families, but being honest and fair helps us live well together.
