The Ten Commandments
Exodus 19:1–20:21
Three months after leaving Egypt, God's people camped in the desert at the foot of Mount Sinai. God told Moses that he had carried them as if on eagles' wings, and that they were his special people. The people got ready for three days. Then came thunder, lightning, a thick cloud and a loud trumpet sound, and the whole mountain shook.
God spoke to his people and gave them ten good commandments: to worship him alone, to honour his name, to rest on his holy day, to respect their parents, and not to kill, steal, lie, break the promises of marriage, or long for what belongs to others. Moses told the people not to be afraid.
Children learn: God gave his commandments out of love, to show us how to live well with him and with each other.
