Story 13
The Sea Opens
Exodus 14:5–31
After God's people left Egypt, Pharaoh changed his mind and sent his army with chariots after them. The Israelites were camped by the sea, and when they saw the army coming they were very frightened. Moses told them, 'Do not be afraid. Stand firm and see how the Lord will save you.' The pillar of cloud moved behind the people and kept them apart from the army.
Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. All night a strong wind blew, and the water parted, with dry ground in the middle and a wall of water on each side. The people walked safely across. Then the water flowed back, and the army could not follow them any more. The people trusted the Lord.
Children learn: Even when we feel scared and cannot see a way through, God can make a way, and we can trust him.
